Angus MacNeil compares post-Brexit Britain to Somalia and Sudan

SNP lawmaker Angus MacNeil stunned Julia Hartley-Brewer today after he compared the trading situation for post-Brexit Britain to countries like Somalia and Sudan.

MacNeil had been invited on to talkRADIO to discuss Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s keynote address to the Scottish National Party Conference.

As the conversation turned to Brexit, the SNP MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar said the UK had to be “intellectually ready” for leaving the single market and customs union.

He told Julia: “We have to be intellectually ready for the emotional realisation to come in March 2019.

“I think the reality of what will happen is the UK will find itself with raised trade barriers for half of global trade.

“Scotland unfortunately will still be in the UK at that point, we’ve got to get out.

“We hope this shocking realisation makes a misled and misgoverned UK realign and beg the EU for more time.”

MacNeil continued by saying that the UK’s self-designed situation, which could preclude regional trading agreements, made it comparable to similar countries like Somalia, Sudan, and East Timor.

Naturally this met with a fiery response from Julia, a keen Brexiteer.
