Somaliland: State informs Fishermen to go for Registration

HARGEISA—–The government has called upon those in the fish industry to get registered themselves and their vessels.

Saying that it was important that each vessel acquires a number plate like elsewhere, the fisheries deputy minister explained the imperatives of a vessel to be differentiated from a foreign one.

Hon. Mohamed Haji Aden Elmi was speaking to the press on Thursday while flanked by his DG Mr. Ahmed Abdi Nour.

The Minister also revealed that the department was bent on bolstering the sector and would soon float 14 vessels.

At the same time Hon. Elmi said the expatriates were on the way to help boost the fish production in Somaliland.

He said that despite the fact that the registration process was ongoing exercise, the whole bulk in the fish industry must undergo the registration process comprehensively.

The minister added that thanks to FAO that the sector will acquire 14 vessels of 9.9 m long.

He told those in the fish industry to rise to the occasion and make use of the modern implements, facilities and gadgets to be used.

The deputy minister has dispelled the hitherto reported allegations on the registration process and said that they were to be done aptly and in accordance with procedure.
